The Kiwi Vikings
Nic and Per from Sweden, met Carrie the kiwi in 2006, while digging a truck out of the African mud. By the time they returned to Europe they had donated textbooks to a local school, the contents of their backpacks to the local people and their hearts to making further positive contributions to the countries they visit. Other charity projects include a community mission in Gambia which to date has dug two water wells and started Gambia’s first womens football team. Between them the three team members have travelled to over 80 countries via camel, bicycle and the odd extended thumb. Aside from arguing the merits of football and rugby their mutual love for different cultures has fostered the passion to make an active contribution to their next destination - Mongolia. Carrie heard about the Mongol Rally through a fellow intrepid adventurer and the seeds were sown. She convinced her two Swedish friends to part with their hard earned cash, annual leave and sanity in the name of adventure and charity.
Carrie left her native New Zealand 12 years ago and has worked in hospitals around the globe as a diagnostic radiographer. Now residing in London, when she isn’t lecturing radiography students Carrie finds solace in planning cultural exchanges and anything that involves watching rugby. She has been assigned chief medical advisor and visa collector due to her proximity to the necessary embassies in London.
Nic is a globetrotter cunningly disguised as a banker – always looking for ways to spend his money on visiting new destinations to add to his tally of 70 countries. His expertise has gained him the title of chief financial officer for our rally team. Nic and Per are childhood friends and football teammates from their hometown of Ystad in southern Sweden and both currently call Malmö home.
Per has been assigned chief mechanic for the Mongol Rally due to his less than extensive knowledge of tractors outweighing the mechanical ignorance of his fellow teammates. When he’s not playing with tractors Per works for himself as a handyman and house restoration.
